Queensland Police Service Adds 5 Beechcraft King Air 360s Ready For Law Enforcement Duty
The Queensland Police Service will soon have in its arsenal five Beechcraft King Air 360 twin turboprops equipped for law enforcement tasks. Beechcraft brand owner Textron Aviation was awarded a contract to supply the aircraft, with deliveries taking place throughout 2023. Based in Brisbane, the King Airs will be equipped with a gravel landing protection kit and have a high-density seat transport configuration.
“We’re honored the Queensland Police Service has chosen the Beechcraft King Air to support their law enforcement mission,” says Bob Gibbs, vice president, Special Mission Sales for Textron Aviation. “The King Air continues to be selected for a wide range of special-mission roles around the world due to the aircraft’s capabilities and reliability.”
Built To Serve
Beechcraft’s King Air 360, King Air 360ER (extended range), King Air 260, and other turboprops are popular for special-mission use among government, military, and commercial entities. Textron can outfit them for aerial survey, air ambulance, flight inspection, float operation, ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance), parachute, training, and utility transport applications.
Textron announced the King Air 360 and King Air 360ER in August 2020. The aircraft entered service in November 2020 with upgrades to the airframe, cockpit, cabin, and avionics as compared to their King Air 350 and 350ER predecessors. Since 1964, Textron has delivered more than 7,700 King Air turboprops to customers around the world. The manufacturer says the King Air is the world’s bestselling business turboprop.
The King Air 360
The King Air 360 can seat up to 11 occupants. It has a maximum range of 1,806 nautical miles (3,345 kilometres), while the King Air 360ER has a 2,539-nm (4,702-km) range. The King Air 360 has a maximum cruise speed of 312 ktas (579 km/h), a useful load of 2,334 kilograms (5,145 pounds), and a maximum altitude of 35,000 feet (10,668 metres).
King Air 360 features of note include an automatic digital pressurisation function that schedules cabin pressure during climbs and descents. Another is an Innovative Solutions & Support (ISS) ThrustSense Autothrottle, which supports pilots through all phases of flight and prevents over temperature and over torque conditions at excessive power levels.
