The tank capacity of a fuel truck may be as low as 750 litres (200 gallons) or as much as 38,000 L (10,000 gal) or more. The key is to find the best capacity for your operation. For example, if you operate a small airstrip, the smallest truck may suffice, while FBOs (fixed base operators) may require a mid-range option and commercial airports will often opt for the highest-possible capacity.

Another consideration is whether the truck has an underwing or overwing hose reel; each type requires specific nozzles and other assemblies to ensure safe refueling operations. Some fuel trucks only have one hose reel, while others have two to support both types of refueling. Your best option will depend upon the types of aircraft that you most commonly need to service.

Other specifications to bear in mind are the hose diameter and flow capacity. For larger jets or situations where speed is particularly important, you may want to prioritize pressure and flow capacity. Smaller-diameter hoses and trucks with less pressure are used for smaller aircraft, and the slower fuel delivery helps limit splash back and fuel spillage.
