Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) awarded type certification for Piper Aircraft's M700 Fury in late August. The M700 Fury is the fastest single-engine plane in Piper's 87 years. The turboprop also received Flight into Known Icing (FIKI) approval. This sets the stage for the first delivery of the aircraft in Canada.

“The first international certification of the M700 Fury with FIKI from TCCA is a crucial part of the overall value proposition of the M700 Fury, as well as a key safety feature for operators,” says Piper Aircraft President and CEO John Calcagno. “This certification not only validates our commitment to safety and performance but also opens new markets for this exceptional aircraft.”

The M700 Fury is the newest model in Piper's M-Class series. It replaces the popular Piper M600/SLS single-engine turboprop.

    Canada & Beyond

Since Piper introduced the M700 Fury in February, the Federal Aviation Administration awarded the plane type and FIKI certifications. Piper hopes to obtain certifications and begin deliveries to Europe and Brazil by the end of the year.

Piper says obtaining FIKI certification is especially valuable in regions such as Canada, as pilots often encounter icing conditions. FIKI certification improves mission reliability and enables the M700 Fury to operate year-round.

    Safety Features

The 6-seat M700 Fury is powered by a Pratt & Whitney PT6A-52 power plant rated for 700 shaft horsepower (522 kilowatts). The plane has a 301-knot maximum speed and a 1,424-nautical-mile (2,637-kilometre) maximum range.

The cockpit has a touchscreen-controlled Garmin G3000 glass fight deck with the Halo Safety System. Advanced avionics include the fully autonomous Garmin Emergency Autoland, Autothrottle, SurfaceWatch, and SafeTaxi systems.

Touting the M700 Fury's advanced safety features and excellent performance, Piper says it's an outstanding option for private owners and missions requiring speed, range, and the ability to operate in challenging weather conditions.
