First Cessna Citation M2 Gen2 Delivery Follows FAA Type Certification
Textron Aviation received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type certification this week for its Cessna Citation M2 Gen2 light twinjet, after which it delivered the first production aircraft to Clovis, California, construction and landscaping company Elite Team Offices. Owner Guy Stockbridge took delivery of the jet, his company’s first, at Textron’s headquarters in Wichita. The M2 Gen2 is an update of the Citation M2, and includes numerous technology and interior improvements designed to enhance the passenger and pilot experience.
“We’re thrilled to get this airplane into the hands of the customers who helped shape it,” says Christi Tannahill, Textron Aviation senior vice president of customer experience. “Guy Stockbridge and his Elite Team Offices operation represent the ideal customer for the M2 Gen2: a first-time aircraft owner whose missions demand a versatile aircraft with performance and cabin amenities often found only in larger jets.”
There & Home Again
Textron introduced the M2 in 2013, and announced the M2 Gen2 at the 2021 National Business Aviation Association-Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition. Elite Team Offices was to take the jet straight from Wichita to a solar project in Arizona and then back home, all in one day.
“We are excited beyond explanation on finally owing our own light jet and what it will do for me, my wife, our teammates, and clients,” Stockbridge says. “Knowing we can get to any project we have across the United States in hours seems unbelievable and amazing at the same time.”
The M2 Gen2
The M2 Gen2 includes a choice of Cashmere, Driftwood, Ebony, and Mist Collection interior styles, plus ambient accent lighting and illuminated cupholders. Optional folding side-facing seats can be converted to provide an additional 22.7 kilograms (50 pounds) of cargo storage. Each cabin seat builds in wireless charging and USB ports. To introduce greater comfort for the co-pilot, Textron added 7.6 centimetres (3 inches) of legroom in the cockpit. The aircraft also has a Fresh Air System that brings in air from outside through the engines, which is then compressed and heated to kill pathogens and germs, and cooled and delivered to the cabin.
The M2 Gen2 is built on an aluminum airframe and is designed for single-pilot operation via its updated touch-controlled Garmin G3000 avionics. The jet can operate at airports with runways as short as 978 metres (3,210 feet), and can climb to 12,500 m (41,000 ft) in less than 25 minutes. Its flight range is 2,870 kilometres (1,550 nautical miles), and its maximum cruise speed is 404 KTAS. The jet is powered by twin Williams FJ44-1AP-21 engines.
