Dassault Aviation is showcasing combat and business jet aircraft at this week’s Dubai Airshow 2021 exhibition, including its upcoming Falcon 6X and Falcon 10X executive jets. The French aircraft manufacturer also has the recently updated 16-passenger Falcon 8X tri-jet on static display, and its Rafale C combat jet is participating daily in the show’s flying display. Dubai Airshow 2021 runs through 18 November and features more than 160 commercial, military, and private jet aircraft.

    The Falcon 8X

Dassault flew a Falcon 8X to the show from France using sustainable aviation fuel. The manufacturer says the 8X is up to 20% more fuel-efficient than competing aircraft in the ultra-long-range class, giving partial credit to its Pratt & Whitney PW307D engines, each of which provides 6,722 pounds (29.9 kilonewtons) of thrust. The jet also features a proprietary Digital Flight Control System (DFCS) derived from Rafale fighter jet systems.

The cabin of the 8X measures 13 metres (42.7 feet) long by 1.88 m (6.2 ft) high by 2.34 m (7.7 ft) wide and provides 48 cubic metres (1,695 cubic feet) of cabin volume. The jet has a 11,945-kilometre (6,450-nautical-mile) flight range and a maximum speed of Mach 0.90. Newly introduced updates include Dassault’s new Innovative Cabin System (ICS), which provides easy control of cabin management and entertainment functions through mobile devices or using touch panels flush-mounted into the cabin’s side ledges.

    The Falcon 6X

Introduced in 2018, the all-new Falcon 6X is set to enter service next year. Dassault says the 16-passenger jet is the most spacious, modern, and versatile twin-engine aircraft in its class. Its cabin measures 12.3 m (40.4 ft) long by 1.98 m (6.5 ft) high by 2.59 m (8.5 ft) wide.

Dassault currently has multiple 6X test aircraft in operation and recently wound up certification testing of the new Pratt & Whitney Canada PW812D engine the business jet will use. The 6X will have a 10,186-km (5,500-nm) flight range and maximum speed of Mach 0.90. Dassault says the jet will have end-of-mission speeds as low as 109 knots, and will be able to access smaller airports with runways measuring 1,219 m (4,000 ft) or less.

    The Falcon 10X

Dassault claims the ultra-long-range (13,890 km; 7,500 nm) Falcon 10X is the industry’s largest and most advanced business jet. Unveiled in 2020, it’s slated to enter service in 2025 complete with Rolls-Royce Pearl 10X engines, each rated for 18,000-plus pounds of thrust. The jet will have a maximum speed of Mach 0.925, and will feature advanced, carbon-fiber composite wings with retractable high-lift devices that help provide superior manoeuvrability at low approach speeds.

The Falcon 10X’s cabin measures 2.07 m (6.8 ft) high by 2.8 m (9.1 ft) wide by 16.2 m (53.10 ft) long, and is larger than some new regional jets, Dassault says. The jet will be able to transport 12 passengers from the Persian Gulf to any destination in the western United States, Asia, or Australia/New Zealand.
