Rex Extending Key Regional Routes Following Federal Government RANS Decision
Several important regional routes from regional and domestic airlines provider Rex Airlines that were previously set to end at the close of the month have been extended until 30 September 2021. This follows a recent Federal Government decision to continue the Regional Airline Network Support (RANS) program. Travel fares for the impacted routes are now available.
“Safe & Reliable Air Services”
According to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Communications, RANS (which launched last March) is designed to help airlines maintain basic connectivity levels across their regional routes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rex routes impacted by the recent decision include:
- Sydney to Bathurst
- Sydney to Cooma
- Sydney to Lismore
- Sydney to Grafton
- Adelaide to Kangaroo Island
The decision extends route services starting 1 April and coincides with new regional services Rex is providing from Sydney to Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie. Rex says it’s “pleased that these cities will finally have access to safe and reliable air services at affordable fares that will go a long way in helping them in their economic recovery, especially at this time of severe flooding.”
Rex is also launching new domestic routes, including from Melbourne to the Gold Coast starting 29 March and from Melbourne to Adelaide starting 31 March. Rex is also launching a Sydney to Gold Coast route on 1 April, supported by its Boeing 737-800 NG fleet. Other planes in Rex’s fleet of more than 120 aircraft include 60 Saab 340 twin-engine turboprops plus Beechcraft, Piper, and Cessna planes.
